Delegation
The formal authority given to a position to make a decision or commit public money up to a stated limit on behalf of the department.
Acquittal
The report and evidence a grant recipient provides to show the funds were spent on the approved purpose and the outcomes were delivered.
Probity
Evidence of honesty, fairness and transparency in a process, especially in procurement and grants, so that decisions can withstand scrutiny.
Conflict of interest
A situation where a private interest could influence, or be seen to influence, the way an employee performs a public duty.
Ministerial brief
A structured written note giving the Minister the information, options and recommendation needed for a decision or an event.
Freedom of information
The legal right of a person to request access to documents held by a public agency, decided by an authorised officer under the Act.
Funded service standards
The conditions of quality, safety and governance a provider must meet to receive and keep departmental funding.
Notice to comply
A formal written direction to a provider to fix a non-compliance by a set date, with consequences for funding if it is not met.
Security classification
The marking applied to information that shows how sensitive it is and how it must be stored, shared and destroyed.
Public interest disclosure
A protected report of improper conduct or wrongdoing in the public sector made under the disclosure scheme.
